Who We Are
Makom is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve the quality of life to which they aspire. Our programs support more than 200 people in over 80 sites throughout the DC metro area. Support is provided through Makom’s residential and transitioning youth programs. Makom provides ample opportunities for adults with IDD to expand their social circles and make meaningful connections with communities of their choosing.
What Volunteers Do
Volunteers will help to facilitate meaningful social opportunities for the adults we serve. Our activities are inclusive environments in which people with IDD can have fun, make friends, and become a part of a broader community. We are looking for folks to lead regularly scheduled group activities - walking group, art group, dance group, social skills group - as a way to provide the individuals we serve an assortment of options for meaningful engagement.
