Who We Are

Here2Help is an all-volunteer non-profit organization that is dedicated to fighting food insecurity in Montgomery County.

On Sundays, we offer residents in need free groceries to pick up to help them get through the week.

These packed bags include perishable grocery items. We partner with several local businesses to add fresh produce, breads, pastries and soups to our packed bags.  We also offer personal hygiene items and diapers when available through the generous donation of our community members .

We accept volunteers that include:

  • middle school students  - must be accompanied by an adult to help
  • high school students -
  • adults of any age that are comfortable lifting heavy grocery bags

What Volunteers Do

Our volunteers assist us in a multitude of ways so that we can have bags of food ready for families to pick up on Sunday afternoons from our distribution site.

Dispatch Coordinator - This volunteer position is open to all high school students and adults.  It requires training so it is only for volunteers that can commit to a minimum of one shift per month on an ongoing basis.  SSL hours cannot be given for this position.

The dispatch coordinator monitors Here2Help's request lines throughout the week and logs the requests from families in need. They are responsible for creating, confirming, and updating the weekly spreadsheet with the information from the families.  This information is communicated and coordinated with the weekly shift leader (on site on Sundays) to ensure a smooth distribution to families.

Shift Leader - This volunteer position is open to all high school students and adults. It requires training so it is only for volunteers that can commit to a minimum of one shift per month on an ongoing basis. The shift leader coordinates all the volunteers that have signed up for the Sunday shift so they need to be able to volunteer for the duration of the shift from 11am -4pm.

Bread and Pastry Pick up - This volunteer position is open to all ages BUT SSL hours cannot be givenMiddle school students must be accompanied by an adult.  Volunteers go to the various local businesses that have partnered with us to gather, inventory and then deliver the bread/pastries to our distribution site.

On Site Bag Packing- This volunteer position is open to all ages.  Middle school students must be accompanied by an adult.  Volunteers label grocery bags in preparation for packing.  Then bags are packed with non-perishable groceries, personal hygiene items, bread, produce, and pastries.

The volunteer will also assist with:

  • Receiving donations from our local partners and distributing these items equitably amongst the families.  This may include bagging of fresh produce and pastries.
  • Taking inventory of needed supplies to fulfill family requests for the following weeks
  • Restocking our packing stage for the following week.
