Who We Are
What Volunteers Do
The Black Leadership Alliance Council (BLAC) Employee Resource Group (ERG) at HJF accomplishes its mission of fostering inclusivity, promoting education, celebrating community, and providing support and mentorship through a variety of programs and activities that directly align with HJF's values, particularly Diversity & Community and Dignity & Respect. While BLAC's mission is distinct from HJF's core focus on military medicine, it complements and strengthens the organization by fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for all employees. Here's how BLAC accomplishes its vision and mission through its programs and activities: Creating a Sense of Community: BLAC' fosters a sense of belonging through regular meetings, social gatherings, and networking opportunities. These events provide a space for employees connected to the African Diaspora to connect with one another, share experiences, and build relationships within HJF. This directly contributes to HJF's value of "Diversity & Community" by building a stronger, more connected workforce. Providing a Safe Space for Discussions: BLAC facilitates open and honest dialogue on issues impacting the Black community, both within and outside of HJF. These discussions create a platform for diverse perspectives to be heard and contribute to a greater understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by Black employees. This aligns with HJF's value of "Dignity & Respect" by ensuring that all voices are valued and respected. Organizing ERG-Sponsored Events: BLAC hosts a range of events designed to promote cultural education, celebrate Black heritage, and facilitate personal and professional development. These events may include: Fireside Chats: Featuring prominent Black leaders and professionals who share their experiences and insights. Book Clubs: Focusing on literature by Black authors or exploring themes relevant to the Black community. Service Projects: Engaging in community outreach and volunteer activities that benefit the local community. Cultural Celebrations: Recognizing and celebrating important cultural events and holidays within the African Diaspora. These events contribute to HJF's value of "Diversity & Community" by fostering a more inclusive and culturally aware workplace. They also contribute to personal and professional growth, aligning with HJF’s value of “Excellence & Innovation” by supporting employee development. Offering Mentorship Opportunities: BLAC provides a mentorship program that connects experienced employees with those seeking guidance and support. This program fosters professional growth and development within the Black community at HJF and strengthens the overall organization by promoting knowledge sharing and leadership development. This directly supports HJF’s value of “Excellence & Innovation” by investing in its employees. By focusing on these programs and activities, BLAC strengthens the HJF community by creating a more inclusive, supportive, and equitable environment. While BLAC's focus is on supporting employees connected to the African Diaspora, its efforts ultimately contribute to HJF’s overall mission and values by fostering a more diverse, respectful, and high-performing workforce.
