Tutor for America Now

Tutor For America Now is a non-profit volunteer organization that has been created in response to the great need for mentoring and tutoring in local communities with disadvantaged students. We have watched firsthand how difficult it is for socio-economically disadvantaged students to defy statistics and get on a positive track toward high school and college graduation. In looking for a way to help, we have done a lot of research. What we found is that kindergarten through 3rd grade is the absolutely critical period in a child’s academic development—so this period of time is the main the focus of our program. We also found that in helping these elementary school students, we are able to provide an outlet for local middle and high school students to volunteer in their communities and simultaneously earn their SSL volunteer hours required for these older students in our school system. These volunteers act as role models who provide tutoring, mentoring, access to various social activities, and individual attention that promotes academic and personal growth for students in need. In addition, we use donations and fundraising to ensure that all students in our program have access to the resources and supplies that many children take for granted—book bags, school supplies, funding for sports teams and recreational activities, etc.

Volunteers with Tutor For America Now play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal development of disadvantaged elementary school students. These middle and high school volunteers serve as positive role models, offering one-on-one tutoring, mentoring, and encouragement during a child’s most critical learning years—kindergarten through 3rd grade. In addition to helping younger students with academics, volunteers also engage them in social and recreational activities that foster confidence and connection.
