Who We Are
Compostology is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2020 by two Maryland high schoolers. From local roots, we’ve grown to represent youth voices globally—reaching the UN Climate Change Conference COP28 in 2024 with 20+ local members and international advisees. We lead initiatives in food waste action, policy, and education, currently overseeing composting in 12 schools and food recovery in 113. Our youth-led model empowers students to drive change locally and globally. Recognized by the U.S. EPA and awarded $48,000 by the World Wildlife Fund, we implement school composting and food recovery programs that reduce landfill waste and foster peer-to-peer environmental education. We co-authored Maryland State Bill 124—passed after training 17,000 students—which created a $1.25M grant now supporting composting in 26 schools. We've also secured 4 local policies, launched 76 programs in Montgomery County, and partnered with changemakers in 7 countries and 13 U.S. states. Through our Coalition to Re-Imagine Food Waste, we host monthly global meetings to support communities in adopting sustainable practices and building a greener future for all.
