Who We Are

LEDC catalyzes economic advancement of Latinos and local communities by bridging the gap to capital and resources to achieve financial prosperity.

What Volunteers Do

Latino Economic Development Center is looking for professional volunteers to support their financial empowerment program for low-income families starting February 2026. This new program seeks to minimize the mental and emotional burden that financial insecurity places on an individual as well as provide guidance for confident financial decision-making as families strive to build wealth. We plan to offer group workshops followed by one-on-one financial coaching sessions, during which the topics will include creating a budget, savings for an emergency, debt management, investing, and more. For the 1:1 financial sessions, both one-time engagement opportunities and ongoing mentorships will be expected. Volunteers have the option to conduct workshops or 1:1 sessions (or both). Volunteer Responsibilities Workshop sessions: Develop and deliver an engaging 45 –60 minute presentation (either virtually or in-person) on the basics of financial planning, including budgeting, saving, debt management, insurance, and investing. FDIC’s Money Smart Curriculum can help provide a template for this type of presentation. Allow at least 10 minutes for Q&A Classes will take place on the day and time the CFP® is available. One-on-one sessions: Work with at least one client Meet with your client at least twice (For example: One meeting for introductions and data gathering and the other for offering and reviewing mini-financial plans for your client); Provide financial guidance based on the objectives of your client, including but not limited to budgeting, saving for emergencies, debt management and payoff plans, and investing; Spend 30 minutes to one hour per meeting; Meetings will be based on the availability of the volunteer and client; and Engage in non-judgmental conversations about finances.
