University of Maryland Quantum Materials Center

The Maryland Quantum Materials Center is a facility in the Physics Department at the University of Maryland that supports cutting-edge experimental research in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering. Including a diverse range of faculty, research scientists, graduate and undergraduate students, QMC researchers are working on topics ranging from the search for new quantum materials to the design of new electronic devices that work on new physical principles.

Student volunteers work alongside faculty, graduate students, and research staff at the Maryland Quantum Materials Center to support laboratory research in physics, chemistry, materials science, and engineering. Volunteers can assist with organizing laboratory equipment and materials, preparing simple experiments, collecting and organizing scientific data, learning basic research techniques, and participating in educational demonstrations and outreach activities. Students gain hands-on experience with the scientific research process while contributing to an active research environment under the direct supervision of university researchers. This opportunity introduces students to careers in science and engineering while developing teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills through meaningful service to the research community.
