Who We Are
AMIGOS inspires and builds young leaders through collaborative community development and immersion in cross-cultural experiences. Our vision is a world where all people are lifelong leaders sharing responsibility for our global community.
What Volunteers Do
AMIGOS empowers its participants to leave their comfort zone and discover what is possible. Volunteers live and work with communities across the Americas from 2-6 weeks, giving them the chance to learn and grow as a leader. Our programs offer language and cultural immersion, cross-cultural collaboration, community ownership and impact, leadership development, training, and an unsurpassed health and safety system. AMIGOS Summer Programs give young people, ages 13 to 19, an opportunity to gain life experience and leadership training over 2 to 6 weeks of living and working with communities across the Americas. Program participants work with US and Latin American peers to design and lead community projects related to areas such as public health, youth engagement, and environmental sustainability.
The AMIGOS Washington, DC Community recruits, and supports AMIGOS participants and their families from the Washington, DC metropolitan area, including DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Our Community accepts participants September through February of the fall/winter prior to each summer experience. During the months of February through May, Washington, DC participants will take part in local events as they prepare for their AMIGOS experience.
