Who We Are
The Clara Barton Center for Children is a fully licensed non-profit daycare established to facilitate learning through play by providing a varied, developmentally appropriate program that nurtures the creativity and exploration and fosters children's social development. We provide quality, comprehensive and child-centered learning environments and child care services for children ages two to five years of age.We have 5 classrooms, with at least two, well-trained teachers per classroom. We have two fully-equipped, age-appropriate playgrounds. We offer a flexible schedule to fit the needs of the families in our community. We are accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education. There are currently 75 children enrolled in our center. We value: a curriculum that emerges from the needs and interests of children and teachers; parents as partners in documenting children's learning; diversity in cultural background, learning styles, and expressed opinions; a sense of community in the classroom, in the staff room, and in our neighborhood; active participation of staff and parents in center-wide decisions; continuity and stability in relationships between children and their teachers; openness and directness in interpersonal relations at every level of the organization; and respect for oneself and for others; and respect for the environment inside and outside of the classroom.
What Volunteers Do
We value being part of our community and would like to extend that to MCPS students. Student volunteers will assist classroom teachers in implementing our curriculum, helping to prepare and serve snacks and lunch, playing and engaging with the children at the children's level, assisting with set up and clean up and reading books with the children.
