Who We Are

Since 1900, Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind has been dedicated to helping the blind or visually impaired population of the greater Washington region overcome the challenges of vision loss. Our work enables people of all ages who are blind or visually impaired to remain independent, active and productive in our society.

What Volunteers Do

CLB is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the Greater Washington Region for over 100 years. Here are some of the life-changing programs and services that we provide to enable people who are visually impaired or blind, to remain independent. Children's Programs: Camp Lighthouse, Parent Workshops, Teen Support Groups Low Vision Care Services: Two Low Vision Clinics within the community, Future Mobile Unit Senior and Adult Services Program: Independent Living Skills Training and Travel Training, Case Management, Support Groups Careers: Job Training, Skills Building, Job Coaching & Placement Assistive Technology: AT Devices, Computer Training, Technology Assessment, Worksite Evaluations Bridge to Work for Veterans: Skills Training on Digital Data Scan and Job Placement There is a growing number of people, approximately 80,000, including veterans experiencing vision loss in the Greater Washington, DC Region. According to Prevent Blindness statistics, every 7 minutes someone in America will become blind or visually impaired.
