Who We Are

The mission of the Montgomery County Department of Recreation is to provide high quality, diverse, and accessible programs, services and facilities that enhance the quality of life for all ages, cultures, and abilities. Operating Principals: In support of the mission the Department will readily serve the community by providing:* Leisure activities that enhance skills, health and self esteem * Activities that incorporate current leisure trends and population demographics * Ways to stimulate growth in knowledge through leisure experiences * Opportunities to build sense of community * A network of services linking the community through collaboration and partnerships * Safe havens where participants feel welcome. * Fun for all. What Volunteers Do

Damascus Community Recreation Center is seeking volunteer help from High School-Adults in our after school program M-F 3-6pm and 12-6pm on half days, with homework study, art and sports. Support also needed in Special events such as the Haunted Forest T-TH 3-6pm for prop building in October, the actual event is the last week in October, 6-10pm characters needed, setup crew 3-5pm, take down crew 9-10pm. Santa's Workshop second Wednesday night in December 6-9:30pm bakers needed for cookie swap, musicians, craft workers and vocalists welcome. Spring Bike Rodeo-Safety event needs volunteers. Work in the garden, roving acts and help with Damascus Days float for the parade or to assist the following day with face painting, games and activities also welcome.
