Who We Are

We have been serving individuals in Damascus for over 200 years.  we are rooted in faith, growing in love, branching out into God's world.  We are from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. We have various strengths and gifts to bring peace and acceptance in the areas of nurture, witness and justice.

What Volunteers Do

Summer Youth Missions Tour - As a youth group we will reach out to people in the spirit of hospitality by carrying the message of peace and hope for the world.  As a part of this experience the youth will be trained musically in the areas of choral, orchestral, puppetry and hand bell performance and in technical support for the productions.  The youth will receive guidance to help them understand, accept and have respect for cultural differences relevant to the areas to which they will travel. Some performances are conducted at senior living, rehabilitation and veterans facilities for their fellowship with our youth and their entertainment only, at other venues, donations are requested to raise money for local charities and national/international disaster response.

Vacation Bible School Youth Helper (secular responsibilities only) - The Vacation Bible School Program reaches out to children ages 4 thru 5th grade in our community and provides a place for them to be engaged and involved in the areas of music, crafts, games, snack, small group discussions, stories and physical activities that revolve around a serving, nurturing or justice related theme each day during the week that is held each summer. The Youth Helpers assist the adult leaders and children in these areas and act as role models.  The youth are prepared before hand in the understanding of the theme and the expectations we have of them and how to be good role models for children as well as how to assist in caring for the children under their supervision

Soup Kitchen Program (Frederick Community Action Agency) - Students and adult leaders plan, prepare and serve dinner to low-income, disadvantaged and homeless people in Frederick County, MD.  The students are responsible for clean up after dinner has been served.

Habitat for Humanity Work Camp (Garrett County, MD) - Habitat for Humanity is an international nonprofit Christian housing organization which on a local/community level, builds affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate housing.  The work camp in Garrett County builds homes for families identified through local agencies.  Students use the skills they have and learn, in carpentry, painting, siding and odd jobs such a site clean up, helping construction crews and support work teams (prepare and serve meals, etc.) This camp is one week in duration in the middle of July each summer.

Damascus Help - Supervised group collections of food for Damascus Help, the community food pantry/bank.

Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Events - We will pack 10,152 meals to help stop global hunger.

Stormwater Management Facilties Clean-up - Remove vines, invasive weeds, debris from storm water management facilities (swales, intakes, outfalls, dry ponds) and apply mulch on the campus.
