

Who We Are
The mission of the Olney Farmers and Artists Market (OFAM) is to provide our community with fresh, locally grown produce and to provide a central gathering place to spend quality time with friends and family.
The Friends of the Olney Farmers Market is OFAM’s charitable and educational 501(c)(3) organization. Its mission is to improve the health of our citizens of all ages by:
· hosting healthy eating cooking demonstrations
· providing free yoga and other fitness activities
· subsidizing the purchase of fresh fruit and produce for our neediest customers
· donating to the Manna Food Bank to support their mission
and partnering in community efforts by providing:
· the opportunity to earn SSL hours
· two Kids in Biz days where children from 8 years old sell food or crafts they make, and, learn entrepreneurial skills, customer service, sales, and making change.
· a composting station
· a venue for budding, local musicians
· space and supplies for non-profit organizations such as Jeremy's Run, The Race for the Cure, Relay for Life, Olney Home for Life, The Washington Area Rescue League, and the Boys and Girls Club of Olney, to name a few.
What Volunteers Do
There is much value for students earning their SSL hours at the Olney Farmers and Artists Market.
Life skills They learn customer service, entrepreneurial and leadership skills. They work and problem-solve together, developing their teamworking skills, and seeing their efforts and contributions achieve a goal.
Community contribution Students learn the value of contributing to their community and feel proud of what they help to create. A lifetime of contributing to society can start here.
Career Path Prior students have determined their college major or career choice.
What Volunteers Do
The volunteers assist in operating the market. Duties include:
· help run the information tent
· help with SNAP and the market’s own voucher program
· collecting the vendor fees
· assisting vendors with tent set up and break down
· setting up / cleaning up the café seating and kid’s tent areas
· ensuring the market is clean and trash-free
· helping with parking and barrier set up to prevent cars from driving on the market site
· helping the elderly and disabled with parking and safely entering the market
· assisting with special programs
Volunteers report enjoying their time at the market and having fun.
