Who We Are
The Iran Cultural and Educational Center (ICEC), is a non-profit organization under section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code registered in the State of Maryland. ICEC is an independent institution with no affiliation to any group. The Center (ICEC) is open to all students interested in learning the Persian language and culture. ICEC's core mission is to create an environment that fosters an appreciation of cultural diversity among young learners and thus helps them become ambassadors of cultural awareness.
What Volunteers Do
Students who complete the highest level, or Grade 8th, volunteer three hours of their Saturdays, from mid-September to mid-June, to serve as teacher assistants. As teacher-assistant, their task consists of working with younger learners individually or in small groups as needed in order to review, practice, and reinforce the newly taught concepts. Since the entire instruction is in the target language, they play an important role in helping the instructors to model new topics and vocabulary without using English. These students are the best role models for younger learners who look up to them and aspire to follow their path as teacher assistants one day.
