The Islamic Center of Maryland is a religious and educational non-profit organization. The Center complies with the laws of the United States as well as the rules and regulations of the Internal Revenue Service for non-profit organizations. Our goal is to assist those in need with the spirit of kindness, compassion, love, and respect. The Social Services Committee is a one-stop community service office providing financial help, counseling services for various spiritual or psychological issues, and transitional housing. We work to help needy families and individuals facing the hardships of unemployment, compounding bills and/or homelessness; as well as helping our clients to access existing state and local resources. The Committee also supports women's shelters. The shelter is a transitional house for women and their minor children in need of safe haven due to poverty-related homelessness, marital discord, or domestic abuse. Women in residence receive counseling to help them cope with emotional and psychological stress, as well as training in areas of job readiness, child care, and parenting.
