MentorPrize mitigates the chronic shortage of mentors in the D.C. area so that children and young adults from disadvantaged backgrounds get the emotional, academic and/or professional support everyone deserves. It recruits mentors and place them with local mentoring programs that serve a wide range of constituents — from homeless kids to teenage parents to first generation college students. It is aggressively working to identify quality mentors for its partners. Mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on mentees, mentors and by extension society at large. But finding a meaningful opportunity can be daunting given the region's dizzying array of programs.
