Who We Are

Special Hockey Montgomery - the Cheetahs - were founded in 2006. Montgomery Cheetahs Special Hockey exists for the enrichment of the athlete with a developmental disability. In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individual characteristics such as dependability, self-reliance, concentration, willingness to share, and personal accountability. The game of hockey is used by the Cheetahs to develop within each player the characteristics that will help the player to be more successful both inside and outside a hockey environment.

What Volunteers Do

Our volunteer mentors, Hockey players 13 and up, support Cheetah athletes on the ice while working on skill drills to help them learn the game of hockey.  Mentors follow the directions of the coaches on the ice.  Before going on the ice, they are checked in and paired with a Cheetah player depending on the players needs.

Mentors should be able to skate and should play or have played organized hockey with a local team.
