Who We Are
The National Foundation for Cancer Research is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides scientists in the lab the funding they need to make game-changing discoveries in cancer treatments, detection, prevention and ultimately, a cure. NFCR has distinguished itself from other organizations by emphasizing long-term, transformative research that is overlooked by other major funding sources. With the help of more than 5.3 million individual donors over the last 51 years, NFCR has delivered more than $415 million in funding to public education and cancer research leading to several important, life-saving discoveries.
The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) was founded in 1973 to support cancer research and public education related to prevention, early diagnosis, better treatments, and, ultimately, a cure for cancer. NFCR promotes and facilitates collaboration among scientists to accelerate the pace of discovery from bench to bedside. NFCR is committed to Making Cures Possible—cures for all types of cancer.
In order to fully conquer this devastating disease, we fund scientists and laboratories worldwide to study cancer at its most fundamental level. Currently, our projects include improving cancer prevention strategies, developing early detection tools, and advancing targeted cancer therapies.
Our work would not be possible without the support of millions of individual donors across the United States and around the world. With continued support, we will continue to foster collaboration amongst scientists around the world and across disciplines; provide seed funding and flexibility for innovative ideas and research, and maintain our long-term vision and commitment to cancer research.
We envision a future without the specter of cancer. We will not stop until we find a cure for all types of cancer. Join us today and help us win.
What Volunteers Do
We accept interns year-round currently that can earn school credit or who seek to gain office and non-profit experience. In-office activities include coordinating and organizing marketing/promotional items, updating donor database, shredding outdated documents, assisting with mailings, and other miscellaneous tasks.
Volunteers can also participate in our Youth Ambassador program, which is an opportunity for top high school students to serve as leaders in raising awareness and support for cutting-edge cancer research. Ambassadors can combine their passion for sports, science, and/or the arts with community service to bring new energy to cancer research fundraising.
NFCR Youth Ambassadors learn critical leadership skills, such as how to recruit, raise awareness, and fundraise. Plus, they learn how a national nonprofit organization functions.
We also have volunteer opportunities at in-person, live events that we host or serve as a beneficiary.
