Who We Are
Like a favorite children's book, the Noyes Children's Library is warmth and security, fun and adventure. It's a place to launch your child's love of books and reading, and a place to gather and celebrate the magic of young minds awakening.
What Volunteers Do
The Noyes Children's Library Foundation was founded in 1993 as the private arm of a public-private partnership to fund the Washington area's oldest public library. The work of the Foundation includes 1) promoting the Noyes Library as a unique, historic resource and destination for children, families, and professionals interested in early childhood literacy and learning, 2) developing, presenting, and/or funding programs and events that encourage young children's interest in books and learning, 3) raising the funds needed to sustain and enhance the Noyes Library's operations and historic building.
NCLF is grateful for student volunteers from MCPS who are participating in Student Service Learning (SSL). Student volunteers frequently participate in NCLF events that promote early literacy, including supporting events like the Kensington Train Show, NCLF's participation in the Kensington Labor Day Parade, and the annual Noyes Dance Party for young children. Activities may include running activities like a scavenger hunt at an event, handing out flyers with information about the Library, assisting with story times, and other event-related support. Students can contribute directly to fostering children's love of reading as well as promoting the important community impact of Noyes Library through support of these events.
