Who We Are

Founded in 1936, the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight and quality of life by providing services and education, and by championing healthy vision and innovation to everyone in our area.

What Volunteers Do

POB provides free or low-cost vision screenings and eyeglass clinics to communities in Maryland as well as Virginia and DC. This is made possible through funds raised from Look Again Resale & Antique Shops in Kensington, MD and Alexandria, VA.

The resale shops accept donations of gently used household items (antiques, furniture, clothing, collectibles, books, knick knacks, and other items).  POB also accepts donations of eyeglasses and cases, which are cleaned, refurbished, and re-fitted with a prescription for someone in the community who needs it.

Volunteers help with sorting and organizing to streamline POB's mission to serve the community.
