Who We Are
TLC's mission: To improve lives and expand possibilities for individuals with special needs. TLC's vision: to be a highly visible, leading edge organization with strong collaborative and advocacy relationships, and plentiful resources that support quality programs, staff, and facilities for individuals with special needs. TLC strives to create a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone belongs, has equal access and an opportunity to thrive.
What Volunteers Do
The Treatment and Learning Centers is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1950 in Rockville, MD that annually serves nearly 2,000 children and adults with a wide range of special needs. Our mission is to improve the lives and expand possibilities for these individuals through offering a family of services within one organization. Our staff and innovative programs continue to provide a foundation for the achievement of greater personal independence and success for our clients, from the youngest child to the oldest adult.
The Katherine Thomas School offers an exceptional educational experience and nurturing environment to students with special needs, preschool through 12th grade.
TLC’s Speech-Language program primarily serves children with a wide range of communication needs. We offer comprehensive evaluations, individual and group therapy, and summer camps, as well as a variety of services to the community including periodic complimentary screenings, consultative services, and workshops.
TLC provides a family of services with qualified, experienced, and caring therapists and clinicians that can address any identified need and customize solutions through individual therapies, groups, counseling, and/or specialized educational interventions. We offer camps for children as young as 3 years-old, school-age children in grades K-12, as well as summer programs for young adults who have graduated high school.
Volunteers from speech and occupational therapy college programs gain experience in our camps. In addition, high school and college students are able to volunteer with many of our programs and camps throughout the year.
