Who We Are

Widow Care provide accessible content and connections to the 680,204 DC, Maryland and Virginia residents facing the loss of a spouse, so they can become empowered in their walks through grief and new challenges.

What Volunteers Do

We offer a variety of programs to widows and widowers of all ages & stages of grief. Our programs include one-on-one mentorship, peer support groups, social meetups, educational/grief seminars, in-home volunteer assistance & more. We also offer connections to local resources, and provide our own widowed checklist to help members understand their post-bereavement responsibilities. Finally, we have blog and video series that help to educate and inspire, while creating comradery in experiences.

According to the US Census report there are over 680,000 widowed persons living in DC, Maryland & Virginia. Many of these residents have no organized system of support and many lack knowledge regarding services available to assist them in their grieving and recovery. One third of those over the age of 65 are widowed, and nearly 20% of widowed women are under the age of 45.

Many people remain unprepared to navigate life after the death of a spouse or partner - and are desperate for the resources and support that Widow Care can provide. These residents are at high risk for isolation, depression and job loss. In this transient metropolitan area, many lack local family and friends to act as a support network during loss. Seemingly simple tasks like lawn mowing, home maintenance and budget management can become daunting tasks.

Widow Care is here to help fill that void by linking widows to community resources and fellow widowed "travelers" through social opportunities. To accomplish this goal, Widow Care offers a new and improved website that will serve as a repository for resources and support for widows.

We are seeking board members with a variety of skills and experience to help us realize our mission. The time commitment is small, but the benefits are many - helping widowed persons of all ages in our community. Conveniently located in Rockville at 795 Rockville Pike, our office is in a Long & Foster 2-story, brick building (between a PNC bank and IHOP). Please help the often forgotten members of our community.
