We are a Lutheran Church congregation, with active school-age and youth programs, and a churchwide Outreach program. Through these programs, we regularly serve the community as well as national and international charities.
Our church serves a week's worth of meals to a women's shelter each Spring, and supports Southeast Ministry in Anacostia through a Giving Tree. Emmanuel provided an apartment for a second Afghan refugee family through Lutheran Social Services. On MLK Day in 2020, we prepared 200 breakfasts for a men's homeless shelter and made hundreds of pet toys for the Humane Society. We send over 500 pounds of food to MANNA each year.
Our youth have worked at A Wider Circle and a local Special Olympics, and raised money to send water filters to hurricane victims. Youth and church members have worked on home rebuilding projects in Puerto Rico and held virtual races to support those projects.
In 2022, our Sunday School held a stream walk to clean Cabin John Stream. Recently, we've sent cards and care packages to first responders. Our families collect school supplies for Community Family Life Services in DC, and clothing and toiletries for immigrants from the TX border.
We want to welcome more students to work with us on non-religious projects, to help in the community.
