Who We Are
Our mission at Project Management for Change is to unleash the boundless potential of the PM profession to empower and transform communities around the world. We do this through pro-bono support by professional project managers of non-profit organizations’ most pressing world-changing initiatives. This pro-bono support is provided at our signature “Project Management Day of Service” events around the world, and also on a continuou basis to help focus on the right projects and to help see those projects through to completion. All employees of PM4Change are professionals who have other day-time jobs, and volunteer their time (pro-bono, no pay) to run PM4Change. What is PMDoS? Created in 2014, the Project Management Day of Service (PMDoS) began as a one-day community service event in the Washington, DC/Maryland/Virginia area in which project manager (PM) volunteers provided pro bono project management skills to nonprofit participants requiring assistance in assessing and planning projects for their organizations to succeed. These events bring together project managers and nonprofits working hard to serve our community to help them do more. We help scope and plan projects for these valuable organizations so that they can do more to serve our local communities. Our events in the DC area serve up to 100 nonprofit organizations (NPOs) with a volunteer team of up to 300 project managers. PMDoS has gone GLOBAL with the participation in 2016-2017 of the Hampton Roads (VA), New York City, and Queensland (Australia) Project Management Institute (PMI) Chapters! Events can be held anywhere there is significant interest, and we’re more than pleased to help you get one started! Now we are literally changing the world, one project at a time! What kinds of NPOs participate in PMDoS? PMDoS attracts a wide variety of organizations which we categorize into seven sectors: Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders Youth Development and Agricultural Foreign Affairs and National Security Art, Culture, Education General and Rehabilitative, Community Health Systems Veterans Support Public & Social Benefit. How are NPOs and PM Volunteers paired for the PMDoS event? In advance of the PMDoS event, specific NPO project management scoping needs specified on the NPO registration forms are matched with PM volunteer qualifications identified in their application and supporting information such as resumes and LinkedIn profiles. What PM volunteer qualifications are desired? A PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired. However, PM volunteers do not need to be PMP certified in order to participate, but they do need to have an understanding of project management principles. How are NPOs and PM volunteers prepared for PMDoS? NPOs will be provided training and worksheets to help develop their problem statement for their project scoping needs before the event. PM volunteers will receive a one-hour webinar training session to become familiar with the unique situations needs of NPOs.
