Who We Are
We are an entirely volunteer-run organization that has been in operation since 2008. Our volunteers come from churches in the area; students from local middles schools, local high schools, and the University of Maryland; the immediate neighborhood; local businesses; government organizations; etc. We work to reduce hunger in College Park Maryland and surrounding communities by regularly offering food to families. We unload deliveries, stock the pantry, and pack groceries on Friday afternoons; and host drive-through distributions on Saturday mornings.
What Volunteers Do
We operate a food bank called the College Park Community Food Bank. We fight hunger in the community by providing food to visitors. Volunteers sign up for individual slots by getting on our weekly signup email list, or finding upcoming dates on signupgenius. Volunteers aged 12 and 13 years old may participate in Friday sessions if accompanied by a parent; Fridays are when we unload shipments and prepare food bags. Volunteers aged 14 through 17 years old may participate with parental permission, and can volunteer either Fridays for prep sessions or Saturdays to staff distributions, but may not sign up for the role of Traffic Controller (this role is limited to volunteers 18 and up). Signup pages may not be available for signup more than a week in advance.
