Who We Are
The Chinese Alumni Associations of Greater Washington (CAAGW), established in 1993 and registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the U.S., has grown over 30 years into a major Chinese community organization with 78 member associations and tens of thousands of members, representing nearly all of China’s top-tier “985” and “211” universities.
As one of the largest and most dynamic Chinese community groups in the D.C. area, CAAGW is dedicated to serving regional alumni, uniting the community, promoting China-U.S. friendship, fostering cultural exchange, and helping Chinese Americans integrate into mainstream society. It has made lasting contributions to Greater Washington and provided valuable models for Chinese organizations worldwide.
CAAGW strengthens collaboration among alumni and other community groups by organizing social, cultural, and sports events. Signature gatherings such as the thousand-person BBQ, the Asian American New Year Gala, “Friendship Cup” sport games, and tournaments in tennis, badminton, pickleball, table tennis, and volleyball are beloved by the local community.
It also serves as a hub of talent, hosting science lectures and alumni forums, organizing innovation competitions, and supporting career development.
CAAGW expands partnerships and strengthens its brand by engaging with local and federal agencies and elected officials. It has co-hosted candidate forums, collaborated with other Asian American groups, and encouraged civic participation—promoting Asian culture and contributing to American society, especially in education, technology, and culture.
As it continues to grow, CAAGW remains committed to serving alumni, uniting the community, and promoting Chinese culture. It aims to foster China-U.S. cooperation in science, economy, and culture as an open platform, collaborative bridge, innovation hub, and cultural ambassador.
