Who We Are

The Senior Hunger and SNAP outreach is a collaboration of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, the Montgomery County Community Action Agency, and the Montgomery County Food Council. The mission of the program is to end hunger and food insecurity in seniors in Montgomery County.  There are thousands of seniors in our community who don't know where their next meal is coming from, often have to chose between buying food or paying for medication, and suffer physically and emotionally as a result of food insecurity.  These seniors need your help.

What Volunteers Do

The Hunger and Snap Outreach Volunteer program aims at Increasing SNAP participation in the senior population to greatly reduce food insecurity and improve their emotional and physical health.  We have partnered with the Maryland Hunger Solutions, a leading organization in the fight of hunger to train our volunteers in the many nuances of senior food benefits and resources. Senior Hunger and SNAP outreach program volunteers are kind, friendly and knowledgeable individuals who go to where seniors are to talk, listen and give information on food assistance resources that are most appropriate for seniors.  Our volunteers help seniors understand SNAP benefits and assist them in completing the SNAP application and other food resource applications as needed.  Volunteers also offer follow up after completion of applications.

We offer MCPS SSL hours for anyone 18 or over
