Who We Are

Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. was founded on the visionary idea that access to sexual and reproductive health care could transform people’s lives. For nearly 80 years, PPMW has provided high quality, supportive reproductive medical care for families in the DC metro area.

What Volunteers Do

PPMW’s mission is to provide high quality, affordable reproductive health care; promote education programs that empower all individuals to make informed & responsible reproductive choices; & to protect the right to make those choices. PPMW is the oldest & largest provider of family planning services in metropolitan Washington, serving DC, Maryland & Northern Virginia.

PPMW's Peer Education program is a student volunteer opportunity where youth learn about sexual and reproductive health and learn skills on how to convey that information to their peers through formal presentations and informal conversations.  Students are trained and part of the program for 1 semester, though have the option to continue to volunteer as an assistant trainer, training the new set of peer educators.  We hope to change the conversation about sexual and reproductive health so that more youth know the facts and know what they can do about it.

This year, we are doing peer education virtually by reaching out to the community via social media.
