Founded in 1928, Catholic Charities is one of the most comprehensive providers of human services to low-income individuals in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. Catholic Charities’ mission is to strengthen the lives of all in need by giving help that empowers and hope that lasts. We promote the dignity of all, strengthen families, and serve the poor and most vulnerable. Our services are open to all those in need, regardless of age, race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, background, belief, or circumstance. Catholic Charities is accredited through the nationally-recognized Council on Accreditation and meets the highest national standards of best practice and establishes that our programs are accessible, appropriate, culturally responsible, evidence-based, and outcomes-oriented. With 59 programs in 35 locations throughout Washington DC and the five surrounding Maryland counties, Catholic Charities provided high-quality services to more than 143,000 individuals in need during our last fiscal year. Catholic Charities’ Spanish Catholic Center (SCC) has been one of the leading English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) service providers in Montgomery County since 1993. We educate individuals in English literacy with the goal of developing the skills and knowledge necessary to improve their academic skills, secure employment, and achieve independence and stability.
