Background on "Stay At Home Bag" Program

In order to support our neighbors who are not mobile and do not have access to food during the week, Up 2 Us Foundation has a “Stay at Home Bag” program. Volunteers at Up 2 Us deliver food bags directly to the doorsteps of families who may not have transportation or are unable to go to the grocery store to buy food for various reasons. Our grocery bags contain nutritious items that may be shared with the whole family such as, rice, beans, vegetables, milk, pasta, tuna, soup, oatmeal, milk, and fruit (among other items).

In order to protect our clients and volunteers, Up 2 Us has a non-contact delivery method. Volunteers will be provided with gloves and masks. Volunteers will leave the food bag at the doorstep of each client. Once the bag has been placed outside the clients door, the volunteer will message the Up 2 Us coordinator who will then call the client to get the food bag from outside after the volunteer has gotten back into his or her car. This process ensures the safety of our volunteers and clients. This process also protects the confidentiality of our clients.

PLEASE READ SAFETY GUIDELINES

The health and safety of our volunteers, participants, and community is a top priority. Therefore, all Up 2 Us volunteers are required to wear a non-medical mask or face covering. Please read and follow the procedures outlined below to ensure the safety of yourself and others.

FACE COVERINGS

In accordance with the CDC recommendations, Up 2 Us is requiring the use of a non-medical mask or cloth face covering by all volunteers while delivering food bags. Thanks to the Food Security Task Force, we have a limited supply to provide to volunteers. If needed, please take one. If you are able to, please bring your own face mask.

We ask that you please follow these procedures for proper ways to apply, wear, and remove a face covering while delivering food:

  • Wash or sanitize hands prior to applying the face covering.

  • Apply face covering to fit snugly around the nose and mouth.

  • Avoid touching the front of the face covering.  If you do, wash your hands and change your gloves, if applicable, before resuming work.

  • Remove face covering from behind by using the ear loops or strings. Do not touch the front of the mask or face covering. Wash or sanitize hands after removing.

  • Dispose of any single-use mask after use. Launder and dry cloth face coverings before next use.

Also, please follow CDC recommendations, which specify that a cloth face covering you purchase or create should:

  • fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face

  • be secured with ties or ear loops

  • include multiple layers of fabric

  • allow for breathing without restriction

  • be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape

HAND HYGIENE

Up 2 Us recommends that all volunteers sanitize hands before, after, and throughout deliveries, as necessary. Single use-gloves are not required but you may wear your own if desired. Thanks to the Food Security Task Force, we have a limited supply to provide to volunteers. If needed, please take one pair. If you are able to, please bring your own gloves. We offer hand sanitizer. We thank you for using your own supplies as needed and ask you to please follow these guidelines about single-use glove use when using:

Single-use gloves are not a replacement for proper hand washing or sanitizing and should only be applied to hands that have been sanitized or washed with soap and water.

Furthermore, gloves must be changed and hands re-washed or sanitized after:

  • gloves get torn or dirty

  • 4 hours of continuous use

  • touching face or hair

  • touching any potentially contaminated surface

  • using the bathroom

Up 2 Us staff will continue to monitor the recommendations of relevant governmental agencies and amend policies as necessary to maintain the safety of its staff, volunteers, and participants.

CLOTHING

Up 2 Us recommends that all volunteers apply the following clothing recommendations to ensure the safety:

  • Wear appropriate closed shoes (recommended sneakers/comfortable shoes)

  • Be prepared with a raincoat or umbrella

Up 2 Us will continue to monitor the recommendations of relevant governmental agencies and amend policies as necessary to maintain the safety of its staff, volunteers, and participants.
