The Market is open every Sunday between Mother's Day and the first Sunday in November. It also holds a Holiday Market on the first Sunday in December. The hours the Market is open are between 9 am and 1 pm. We need students to assist in the setting of (arriving between 7:45 and 8:15 am) - that shift ends at 11 am. We also need students to assist in closing down the Market (between 12:45 and 1:30 pm). Students may sign up to volunteer by going to the Market website at www.olneyfarmersmarket.org and clicking on the link listed. The 2017 regular market opens on Sunday, May 14, and closes on Sunday, November 5. 1. Chef?s Tent Assistant: Demos are usually at 11am, so student will need to arrive by 10am to help set-up. Student will assist with buying fruits and produce and other Market items needed by the Chef. Another duty is to assist Chef?s coordinator in setting up the Chef?s microphone. Student will also help in handing out samples to Market customers. S/he will get some insight into how a chef operates and preparation needed for demo?s; also meet some celebrity chefs and learn new recipes and cooking techniques. Student will also assist in cleaning up and breaking down Chef?s Tent. Shift ends at 1:30pm. 2. Music Tent: Student will assist with setting up tent and weights for musicians and booking musical groups that are suitable for a Farmers Market. Tent needs to be broken down at 1pm.This job would be good for a student interested in possibly pursuing a musical career or who just likes music. 3. Children?s Tent: This is an educational tent where children learn a different craft each week. The Market also plans to buy a different fruit or vegetable from our vendors, so children not only sample it, but also decorate it. Students will assist in developing creative project ideas for the Tent. Assistance is also needed in cleaning up and breaking down that tent. This job might be perfect for someone interested in becoming a teacher. 4. Information Booth: Assistance is needed in setting up at 7:30am and breaking down from 1-1:45pm. Student will assist with food sales and giving away cookbooks and other prizes. Student will learn basic business skills. 5. Recipes: Student will help research recipes for fruits and produce and other items sold at the Market. 6. Be Fit Be Well Tent: The Market offers a free fitness and health program every Sunday. Students will assist in developing first-rate programs to keep our community fit and healthy. Student will also work with Montgomery General Hospital nurses in their tent. 7. Students may be asked to interview vendors and prepare a summary of the interview for publication in Market's weekly newsletter. This enhances student's communication and writing skills. An adult must accompany middle school volunteers to sign in at the Information Booth and return to the Information Booth to sign out.
