Description

Small Things Matter's Crafting for Charity Program helps those in need with handmade items.

We are looking for volunteers to help us fill cups with kind messages and individually packaged drink items to share with the elderly in our community during the holidays.  Elderly people often feel isolated and COVID concerns have made this isolation even worse.  A handmade card and a small gift is a good way to bridge the distance between us and them and help them with their feelings of loneliness.  We would love to have individuals and groups helping us.

THIS ACTIVITY IS NOT APPROVED FOR Student Service Learning (SSL) HOURS.

Instructions:

1. Purchase a nice ceramic holiday mug/cup with a nice holiday scene such as a winter scene, Santa, snowmen, etc.  Nothing religious please. These can be found inexpensively at the Dollar Tree or purchase quality mugs  for a discount at Marshall's and Ross.  The mugs must be brand new for hygiene reasons.  Please keep your receipt which you may be asked to provide.

2. Purchase individually packed drinks (tea bags, coffee bags) to fill the cup.  Amazon is a good place to look for these items search "individually wrapped tea bags" etc and check the photos closely to make sure.

3. Purchase individually wrapped cookies. Amazon is a good source.

4. Make a small handmade card to fit inside the mug out of cardstock or a plain index card. Decorate the front of the card and write a cheery message inside.  You can also share a poem or inspirational quote. Please only include your first name in the cards and do not reveal any personal information such as your email address, home address, or real-life pictures or images of yourself. Also the card cannot be religious in nature.
