Virtual Event: The Real Juneteenth
Emancipation Day in Maryland is celebrated annually on Nov. 1 to commemorate Nov. 1, 1864, the date Maryland abolished slavery in its constitution through an amendment that was voted on by the public. Maryland was the first state to end slavery by a popular vote.
MCPS encourages students to join us for this virtual event featuring Reynauld Smith, who will present a personal, emotional, and historical view of "The Real Juneteenth."
MCPS middle school and high school students will earn 1.5 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for attending and participating in the event:
