Description

Join Tree Friends United, a local Montgomery County-based weed warrior group, and the Little Falls Watershed Alliance to cut invasive plants choking trees and natural habitat from 1 pm - 3 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Glen Echo Park Please sign up using this Tree Friends signup link.

Help clear English ivy and other non-native, invasive plants to restore trees and create a more natural environment at this important arts and cultural center.  We meet at 1pm in Glen Echo Park’s large parking lot on Oxford Road, just off MacArthur Boulevard, at the bridge entrance to the park.  You will work for two hours at your own pace trimming vines in the perimeter of that parking lot, within the park, and on MacArthur Boulevard. No experience needed - guidance and training will be provided by trained weed warriors.

You will feel gratification at your contribution and see results in coming weeks as vines turn brown, shrivel up, die, and allow the trees to flourish once again.

Please wear long pants, sturdy shoes or work boots, a jacket and hat or cap, and work gloves.  Bring with you a water bottle and any of the following tools you may have:  pruning shears, clippers, loppers (long handled clippers), small pruning saw.  We will have a few extra tools if you need them.

Some ground may be uneven.  The event is not wheelchair accessible.

You will be asked to sign a standard National Park Service volunteer agreement.  The event is capped at 20 people.  The outing will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older to join this event.

If you or anyone in your household are sick, waiting for Covid test results, and/or have tested positive for Covid (regardless of vaccination status) you are not eligible to volunteer at this time.
