Join the City of Takoma Park’s Office of Sustainability in celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day! We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make our community event a success. This event is eligible for SSL hours.
Why Volunteer?
Earth Day is a time to celebrate our community’s commitment to sustainability, environmental protection, and climate action. This family-friendly event will feature activities like face painting, nature-themed arts & crafts, a guided tree walk, energy efficiency giveaways, snow cones, lawn games, and more! We'll also have local leaders and Council members joining us to share a few words about our city's sustainability efforts.
Volunteer Roles:
1. Event set-up and break down.
2. On-site assistance Assisting with arts & crafts, games, and activities
Supporting event vendors and community partners
Providing information and guidance to attendees
Promoting sustainable practices throughout the event
Why This Event Matters:
By volunteering, you’ll contribute to fostering a culture of environmental awareness and sustainability in our community. This year’s event location was specifically chosen to be accessible to nearby multifamily housing communities and to encourage carbon-free transportation like walking, biking, and scootering. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, and we especially encourage bilingual volunteers (Spanish and Amharic) to join us to better connect with our diverse community.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
