This isn’t your average environmental clean-up; this is a Green Boats environmental clean-up! Join the Youth Action Institute and Living Classrooms to clean up trash from the Anacostia River straight from our kayaks. Never been on a kayak before? No problem. The Living Classrooms staff will be there to instruct and guide us all throughout our time on the river. Living Classrooms strengthens communities through inspiring people of all ages to achieve their potential through hands-on education, workforce development, health and wellness, and community safety programs. They have environmental education campuses that preserve and showcase urban green spaces and serve as outdoor learning laboratories; a public charter middle school; and a fleet of ships including active floating classrooms and stationary historic museum vessels that offer activities in STEM, ecology, and cultural and maritime heritage – actual living classrooms! This project is open to teens ages 11-18, and participants will earn 2 SSL hours. Please make sure to wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty and bring a filled water bottle, a hat, and sunblock. If you have any questions, please reach out to Lyssa at ajellenik@edcjcc.org.
