Join us at the Montgomery College Food Forest for our regular work parties, which take place on the first Saturday of every month. Come and help transplant, sow, harvest, prune, mulch, weed, water and whatever else needs doing.
We have loads of seedlings to pot up on June 7 and some plants to get in the ground. We also need help weeding and cutting back the sea oats to fertilize the fruit trees and bushes.
Where: Montgomery College Food Forest, 7719 Chicago Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, 20910
When: First Saturday of every month (June 7th, July 5th, August 2nd, September 6th, October 4th, November 1st)
What to bring: water bottle and gardening gloves if you have them (we have spare gloves and there’s a water fountain in a nearby building if you can’t bring a water bottle).
Transport: there is metered street parking on Chicago Avenue. There are also bus stops immediately adjacent to the food forest, on Philadelphia Avenue. Ride On Route 17 and Route F4 both stop at this location.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
