Help Kids Sleep Better – Volunteer to Deliver Beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace!
Imagine a child sleeping on the floor — now imagine being the reason that child gets their very own bed. At Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), we believe no child should go without a bed, yet far too many are.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: get kids off the floor and into beds of their own. We build and deliver complete twin-size bed sets — including a frame, mattress, sheets, pillow, and blanket — to children in need.
Event Description
After each Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) bed build, all built bed material (headboards, side rails, slats, etc.) needs to be transported from the build site and organized in our Gaithersburg storage unit.
We are looking for reliable volunteers to meet us at the storage facility, help unload the bed parts from our transport vehicle, and store them neatly inside the unit.
This is a short but essential role that keeps our future deliveries running smoothly and ensures we are ready for the next bed delivery.
**Please Note** We are expecting this to take between 30 minutes to an hour, but we are providing a time window (earliest to latest) since actual start and end times may vary slightly depending on when the build wraps up and transport arrives.
Volunteer Role:
- Meeting us at the Gaithersburg storage unit at the scheduled time
- Unloading bed parts from the SHP transport vehicle
- Carrying and stacking materials inside the storage unit for easy access
- Working as part of a small, friendly team
Requirements:
- Able to lift and carry wood bed materials
- Comfortable with light physical work for 30 minutes to an hour or so, depending on the size of the volunteer group and material to be stored (opportunity depends on truck arrival time but expected to be between 3:30-4:00pm window for arrival)
- Punctual and dependable
Additional Information
- Rain or Shine (we’ll reschedule for heavy storms)
- Teens welcome with adult supervision
- Registration is required – sign up on our website to receive full event details and updates
- Event Vibe: Productive, grateful, and joyful — Do good. Be good. Feel good.
Why it Matters
Every bed we deliver means more than just a better night’s sleep — it gives a child a space of their own, a sense of security, and a little piece of dignity. Your time and compassion can change a child’s world.
