SSL Opportunity: Learn How to Connect with Older Adults
Learn effective strategies for working with older adults and plan interactive discussion programs with older adults by joining the Link Generations Long Distance Club. Student volunteers will meet via Zoom Monday, Sept. 8, 4-5pm to learn basic principles of aging and best practices for connecting with older adults. This Long Distance Club will meet monthly, and students are welcome to attend as many of the sessions as they can. We’ll be inviting older adults to join future sessions. Students will learn best practices for engaging in interactive conversations with older adults about common interests, each other’s experiences, and helping each other feel a sense of social connections. Examples of discussion themes include music through the ages, teaching technology skills (show off your Smartphone and App skills), and favorite hobbies.
If you are interested in earning SSL hours for this activity, please let us know. Link Generations staff will facilitate each Zoom session. SSL hours are awarded for each hour of participation in the Zoom training and interactive discussion sessions.

Because this is a virtual event taking place on Zoom, please make sure to return the parent/guardian permission form, and note the following:

o Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times.

o Virtual sessions will not be recorded.
o Students should not share or upload any videos, pictures, or images of themselves, unless the nonprofit organization has obtained a signed form/waiver from the student’s parent/guardian authorizing permission/release.
o Students’ email addresses/home addresses or any personally identifying information will remain protected and not shared.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy. The nonprofit organization will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. This service activity is designed to be completed within the safety of the student’s home.
