Volunteer with the Montgomery County Volunteer Center as event staff to ensure a successful 2026 MLK Day of Service. We anticipate 1,500 volunteers will attend this event at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, where they will complete multiple service projects in 20-minute rotations.
We are seeking event staff to support the smooth operation of the event. There will be two shifts available: event setup and flow management from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and event management and cleanup from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., each offering 4 SSL hours. Volunteers may sign up for both shifts, for a total of 7 SSL hours.
Event staff will be assigned to various roles and tasks, including but not limited to:
- Flow management by directing and guiding service project leaders during arrival and setup.
- Help service project leaders load and unload project materials and supplies from vehicles.
- Ballroom setup, including tablecloths, signage, etc.
- Distributing stickers to participant passports throughout the event at each project rotation.
- Assist with event breakdown and clean up, including helping service project leaders load completed projects into vehicles, collecting signage, etc.
A virtual orientation session will be held for all event staff on Friday, January 16th, from 7 – 7:30 p.m.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
