The Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection is seeking a skilled Content & Social Media Writer Volunteer to help us educate residents, share our mission, and strengthen our online presence. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys writing, digital communication, and translating complex topics into clear, engaging, and accessible content.
Task Description
• Research and write communication materials, including newsletters, press releases, blog posts, and website copy.
• Draft compelling copy for social media posts across platforms (X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube).
• Assist in planning and maintaining OCP’s social media content calendar to ensure consistent, timely posting.
• Write blog articles on consumer-protection topics, industry trends, scams, and OCP services.
• Support marketing campaigns by writing clear, engaging copy for digital and print materials.
• Help generate traffic and engagement through strong storytelling and platform-appropriate messaging.
• Collaborate with the OCP team to brainstorm content ideas and creative campaign concepts.
Skills Needed
• Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
• Experience creating content for social media platforms (X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube).
• Understanding of how to tailor messaging for different audiences and platforms.
• Ability to generate ideas and contribute to a consistent, strategic content flow.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on tasks.
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.
• 1-2 years of related writing, communications, or social media experience (professional, academic, or portfolio-based).
