The Montgomery County Volunteer Center (MCVC) is dedicated to strengthening community service by connecting passionate volunteers with local nonprofits and public agencies. As a Social Media Specialist, you will play a vital role in promoting our mission, raising awareness about our resources, and inspiring new volunteers, nonprofit organizations, and public agencies to connect and engage with the Montgomery County Volunteer Center.
In this role, you will support our Community Outreach Engagement and Awareness Program, developing creative strategies to enhance our presence on key social media platforms. Your designs and creativity will help us expand our reach, engage like-minded individuals, and foster a thriving volunteer network. Time Commitment:
This remote volunteer opportunity requires 2–3 flexible hours per week for a minimum of three months. Volunteers must be available for a weekly virtual check-in with the Outreach Engagement manager on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. ET.

Responsibilities for the Ideal Candidate:
- Create 1 to 2 engaging posts per week (Monday to Friday), with the option to schedule content in advance.
- Implement effective social media strategies to optimize results, increase efficiency, and drive platform growth.
- Collaborate with internal teams (event staff, newsletter team, and MCVC members) to identify key moments for coverage and post event-related content within 24–48 hours.
- Receive guidance and supervision to support your success in the role.
Preferred Skills and values are needed for this opportunity
- Social Media Expertise – Strong understanding and experience of digital platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) and best practices for engagement.
- Cultural Competency - Ability to understand, communicate with, and effective interact with Various cultures.
- Content Creation & Storytelling – Exceptional writing and design skills to craft compelling, mission-driven content.
- Public Relations & Marketing Knowledge – Ability to build brand awareness, communicate effectively, and foster connections across different cultural groups.
- Digital Strategy – Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) and content planning to improve reach and visibility.
- Creativity & Passion for Nonprofits – A strong commitment to volunteerism, storytelling, and community engagement.
- Organizational & Time Management Skills – Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Collaboration & Adaptability – Strong interpersonal skills to work well with staff, volunteers, and a multilingual audience.
- Multilingual Communication – Ability to engage and connect with a diverse community. Fluency in more than one language is ideal.

- Lives in Montgomery County, MD
- Age 18+
- Primarily remote with occasional in-person office and event participation
- Limited to Social Media design, creation, and updates only
- 90 days or 3-month minimum commitment
