The MCCPTA Central Summer Area Advocacy Meeting (SAAM) is on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 and the Area Vice President (AVP) & Cluster Coordinators (CCs) need your help to make it a success. Students are highly encouraged to attend and will earn SSL hours for participating in the various roles described below. MCPS parents/caregivers are welcomed in all discussions and volunteer roles; students can earn SSL hours for assisting where indicated.
On July 29th the Central Area PTAs (Churchill, Richard Montgomery, Poolesville, Rockville, Wootton clusters)invite you to share your priorities for the 2026-2027 school year and to talk with MCPS leadership, elected, and appointed officials about how we can partner to address those priorities. Please join us!
What we need:
- Set up: SSL (beginning at 5:00 pm)
- Greeters and navigators (help direct attendees into the event and to breakout rooms) SSL
- Participation in discussions (beginning at 7:00 pm)
- Discussion Facilitators for each small group discussion - subject matter expertise helpful, but not required, just need to keep the conversations flowing, redirect back to the topic where necessary, and prevent monopolization of the converstation. SSL (possible)
- The small group discussion topics of the July 29th meeting include the following, but other topics are also welcome:
- Meaningful Community Engagement and Transparency
- School Climate, Safety, and Conduct
- Curriculum and Program Access, Design, Delivery, and Accountability
- Capital and Operating Budget nPlanning, Accountability, and Stewardship
- The small group discussion topics of the July 29th meeting include the following, but other topics are also welcome:
- Note takers - preferably two per room/topic to ensure that all topics and main points are captured for the Advocacy Priorities. You do not need to be a scribe! Primary notes will be put on large notepads for participants to see (legible handwriting is helpful) and then transferred to a Google doc. These can be done in a Google doc simultaneously if there are two notetakers. Having two notetakers also provides a good cross check to ensure everyone's concerns are captured. SSL
- Interpreters/translators to ensure everyone is included and all voices are heard. Students pursuing the bi-literacy certificate and fluent bi/multilingual adults are welcome. Must be fluent in English and another language. SSL
- Clean up: SSL (ending at 9:30 pm)
Kindly RSVP here so we have accurate attendance information: RSVP Form
