Just Because We Care Inc. is seeking volunteers to support the National Federation of the Blind DC Chapter Annual Cookout.
As a valued program partner, the NFB serves our clients, partners, and community members while providing an opportunity to give back. This event focuses on bringing hope, positive energy, and goodwill through service.
The NFB supports JBWCI with holiday assistance and aids visually impaired clients experiencing domestic violence, making this occasion especially meaningful.
* Duties Include:
Directing guests to doors and seats
Preparing and serving food and drinks
Setup and Cleanup
Encourage participation as party starters.
Volunteers will assist visually impaired individuals and should wear sneakers and a white dress shirt, ready to serve with enthusiasm.
**Student volunteers must arrive with a parent by 10:50 a.m. for check-in**
**Adult volunteers arriving at the same time, allowing extra time for parking**
Volunteers should introduce themselves clearly, for example: “Hi, my name is Chelsea. I’m here with your plate. Today we have a, b, and c, placed right in front of you,”
or
“Welcome, my name is Chelsea, and I’m here to assist you today. The door is three steps to your right; allow me to get it for you. Do you need anything at this moment?”
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
