Piano Pals is an afterschool music and mentoring program currently offered in select Montgomery County Public Schools that provides disadvantaged elementary school students with a middle school or high school mentor who helps the younger child, who would otherwise not be able to afford lessons, learn music.
There are two opportunities for volunteers:
1. Mentors - middle and high school students who are also studying music. Mentors earn Student Service Learning Credit (upon approval). Mentors must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the school on a weekly basis for a one hour (1 hour) session. Curriculum, books, keyboard, and mentor training are provided. Student volunteers are supervised by a site supervisor.
2. Site Supervisor - a responsible adult who coordinates the program at a school site and is present to supervise Piano Pals at the weekly session. Training is provided.
