Volunteers assist with feeding, grooming & caring for horses, barn chores, general farm maintenance, fundraising, grant writing, special events and administrative/clerical needs.
DEFHR offers a wide array of volunteer opportunities without the restrictions of meeting minimum or maximum hourly participation requirements. We welcome volunteers aged 5 & up to help the horses every day of the year. Days End Farm Horse Rescue™, Inc. (DEFHR), is a 501(c)3, nonprofit, volunteer-based animal welfare organization established in 1989. Our mission is “Ensuring quality care and treatment of horses through intervention, education and outreach.”
DEFHR is a well respected national rescue and rehabilitation facility for horses seized by animal protection authorities from across Maryland and surrounding states. We shelter 80 to 100 horses on a daily basis and have rescued and rehabilitated over 2,200 horses to date. After their rehabilitation, the horses are evaluated and provided the training needed to best prepare them for adoption.
