The JCA Samuel J. Gorlitz Kensington Clubs are social clubs designed for seniors in the early stage of memory loss, located in Rockville, MD. Experienced staff and volunteers provide social activities to Club members. Club members are independent with walking and all personal cares. They participate in group games, exercise, art therapy, music therapy, and discussion and then return home again after four hours.
We are in search of teen volunteers beginning June 6, to assist the staff in offering these activities in our in-person Club, Kensington Club@Parklawn.
Volunteers must:
● Be 15+ years old (those under 15 would need supervision)
● Be vaccinated against Covid-19.
● Be interested in serving the older adult population with specialized needs.
● Be willing to independently complete basic dementia tutorials (reading and watching short videos) on the Alzheimer’s Association website before the start date.
● Be willing to commit a full day (4 hours) or half day (2 hours) at least once a week. (either from 9-1 or 1:30-5:30).
● *For students, there is a potential for 30-40 SSL hours for a 8 week summer commitment. June 1 - September 1, 2022 (negotiable).
