Wheaton is walking to celebrate art, its diverse cultures, and its designation as an Arts & Entertainment District. On September 22, the parade and festival will feature floats, music, dance, film, and a gathering of artists and community organizations from Wheaton and all of Montgomery County. The Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival needs volunteers to help throughout the day. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and a coupon for food and drink from one of the festival food vendors.
The parade and festival begin at 10am. The parade lasts about 1 1/2 hours. The festival runs until 5pm. Volunteers are needed as early as 7am to help with set up and as late as 6pm to help with break down. Volunteers should sign up for 3 hour shifts. A minimum of 3 hours is required for all volunteers.
The main tasks that volunteers need to be do for the parade:
- Assist in setting up the staging area.
- Assist check-in parade participants
- Assist participants in getting to their assigned group assembly area
- Assist with unloading floats and getting them to their designated spot
- Assist groups and floats to enter the parade in order
- Walk in the parade with a group and help them succeed
- Help position the floats in the festival area at the end of the parade
- Collect things left at the assembly area
The main tasks that volunteers need to do for the festival:
- Assist in setting up the festival area
- Assist check-in festival exhibitors
- Assist artists in getting artwork to their tents
- Staff the information booth and assist T-shirt sales
- Assist stage managers at the 3 performance areas
All volunteers will need to attend an orientation session two weeks prior to the parade & festival.
