Description

The Glen Echo Fire Department (GEFD) is hosting a large scale mass casualty incident
(MCI) training to help fire-rescue/EMS departments in the DC area train and prepare for
such an incident. In order to make the scenario as realistic as possible, we need
between 20 and 30 patients, as well as many additional bystanders as possible.

Logistics
The drill is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 28th, 2019 at the Holton Arms
School (7303 River Rd, Bethesda MD). Patients will need to be onsite from
approximately 7:00 am to 11:00 am. Breakfast and snacks will be provided to
participants.

Participants’ Role
Participants will be assigned either a "patient" or "by-stander" role upon their arrival. Both
of these roles are extremely important to running a realistic scenario.
Patients will be moulaged (given make up to appear wounded) and given information about their medical condition. EMS providers will be required to simulate triage, treatment, and transport of all victims. Patients will be told their injuries and should play-act as if those injuries were real, and caused them real pain.

Bystanders will be given different scenarios to play out. Managing crowds and
bystanders is a critically important part of any emergency event. Participants who are assigned a bystander role will need to play-act their roles until managed by Fire Department and Police personnel.

Please note that these scenarios will be highly realistic, fake patients will be moulaged
and appear to be bloody, and the scenario will be very intense. Only persons aged 16
and older are permitted to be patients; only persons 14 and older are permitted to be
bystanders.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver form. The form is available to download on this site. Forms will also be emailed out in advance of the drill and copies will be available the morning of.

SSL Hours
For those in high school, four (4) Student Service Learning (SSL) hours will be awarded
for your help. SSL forms that are already filled out by the Fire Department will be available to participants.
