Spanish Speaking Community Ambassadors Needed to Staff 5/2 Vaccine Appointment Making Event at Hughes United Methodist Church's Mother's Day Fair and Celebration (Wheaton)
On Sunday, May 2, from 12pm - 4pm, the County will host a COVID-19 Vaccine Information & Appointment Making Event at Hughes United Methodist Church's Mother's Day Fair and Celebration,10700 Georgia Avenue, Wheaton, MD 20902. Volunteers arrive at 11am and will receive training.
Our goal is to encourage everyone we meet to get the COVID-19 vaccine by hosting vaccination information tables, answering vaccine-related questions, distributing COVID kits, and offering County Health Clinic appointment assistance. (Note: Community Ambassador work is transitioning from pre-registration to making appointments!) To ensure safe interactions, staff will practice social distancing, wear masks, use hand sanitizer, and rely on posters with QR codes. We are looking for a total of 4 volunteers who speak Spanish to join us.
Background:
Covid has disproportionately affected certain communities within Montgomery County. At the same time, these areas where Covid rates are the highest are where vaccination rates are the lowest. Barriers include technology, hesitancy, limited English proficiency, isolation, and disinformation or conflicting messaging. That's why in-person outreach in underserved communities is needed to inform residents and assist them with the vaccine process at County Health Clinics. We need to get the ENTIRE County vaccinated!
To Volunteer:
1) If you have not yet attended one required Zoom Information Session, please sign up by going to our Vaccine volunteers web page under "Resources for Community Ambassador Volunteers".
2) After you attend the Information Session, update the "Qualifications" section of your Volunteer Center account. Instructions are here. NOTE: This system will not allow you to register for any outreach event without completing steps 1) and 2).
